Hobbs traces the life of Peace, his Yale roommate, who grew up in the Newark, New Jersey, ghetto, the son of a striving single mother and a drug-dealing father who went to prison for murder. Peace, who had a brilliant mind, went to prep school and then on to Yale, his tuition and expenses paid by a local banker.
