U.S. Sen. Menendez indicted on corruption charges

U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez was indicted Wednesday on charges he accepted gifts from a Florida eye specialist, Salomon Melgen, in exchange for using the power of his office to benefit the Melgen's financial and personal interests, a Justice Department spokesman said. Menendez and Melgen were each indicted in Newark on one count of conspiracy, one count of violating the travel act, eight counts of bribery and three counts of honest services fraud, spokesman Peter Carr said.
