Activists, union ramp up push against Newark school district's 'turnaround' program

On Friday, the Newark Students Union and NJ Communities United are working with students at East Side High School to organize a "walk-out" at noon in protest of the district's decision to name the school a turnaround school. The district has named eight schools to become turnarounds next school year , which means that teachers will be asked to sign agreements that may require them to work for a longer school day, go through two additional weeks of professional development in the summer and work on multiple Saturdays.
