NEWARK - On trial for fatally shooting Teshon Clegg in 2013 during a fight at a Memorial Day party in Newark, Richard Whatley had claimed he acted in self-defense. But an Essex County jury on Thursday disagreed and convicted Whatley, 21, of Hillside, of passion/provocation manslaughter and unlawful possession of a weapon.
