Brains and brawn: NJIT's first postseason gives Newarkers a team to root for

NEWARK - Local politicians in the crowd at Monday night's NJIT post-season basketball game had a message for players - basketball fans across the city, and the state, are rooting for you. According to school officials, a number of area mayors - including Newark's Ras Baraka, Orange's Dwayne Warren, Tony Vauss of Irvington, and Angela Garretson from Hillside - were in the stands.
