New Jersey motorists are paying less than $2 a gallon for regular gasoline, and now major U.S. airlines are predicting their costs for jet fuel will break that barrier also, which bodes well for the industry. The Chicago-based parent of United Airlines, the dominant carrier at Newark Liberty International Airport, on Thursday forecast in a conference call with analysts and media that first-quarter fuel costs will be the lowest they've been in more than five years, between $1.96 and $2.01 per gallon, down from $2.83 in the fourth quarter.
