Sgt. Ronald Glover, a spokesman for the Newark police, said members of the department's Cease Fire/Violence Reduction Initiative were patrolling in the area of South 20th Street and 18th Avenue - the site of a recent homicide - around 1:20 a.m. this morning when they saw a group of men huddled on the sidewalk. As the detectives' vehicle grew closer, the men began to scatter, and detectives noticed one member of the group jamming a .45-caliber handgun into his waistband as he left, Glover said.
