Two men dead in Irvington street shooting, authorities say

The victims -- ages 20 and 21 -- were shot around 5:30 p.m. as they were walking on the 600 block of Chancellor Avenue, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Irvington Police Director Tracy Bowers said in a joint statement. One of the men was found dead at the scene while the other died a short time later at University Hospital in Newark, said Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the homicide unit.
