Man found in Newark home was beaten, strangled to death, authorities say

Medical examiners determined that 46-year-old Mark C. Holley died from blunt force trauma and strangulation, according to Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Katherine Carter. According to Newark police reports, he was discovered by his daughter and her boyfriend, who had come to check on him after repeated calls to his phone had gone unanswered.
