NEWARK - A man is in critical condition at University Hospital after being shot once by a veteran police officer, authorities confirmed today. At about 10 p.m. last night, Newark officers working as part of the firearms interdiction team attempted to stop and interview the man near South 9th Street and South Orange Avenue, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable said in a joint announcement about the shooting today.
