Newark fire director caught up in state and prosecutor's office probes

Newark's newly appointed fire director, James Stewart, has been accused of trying to provide firearms to arson investigators who were not allowed to carry guns, and of shoehorning an unqualified and politically-connected candidate into the city fire academy, according to union leaders and law enforcement sources.
